Hatim al-Tai was a real-life Arab Christian chieftain of the Tayyi tribe, a ruler of Shammar, who lived in the 6th century CE. He was renowned and celebrated for his extreme generosity, courage, and chivalry, and his adventures and virtues are even praised in several Hadiths (sayings of the Prophet Muhammad).
